Had we known that touting about with a party size bag of chips was the very cutting edge of fashion, we would have hit the runway years ago. This is the take away we’ve gotten from the 2024 Met Gala accessory of the moment, a Balenciaga cheese and onion flavoured chip bag worn by actor Michael Shannen. 

The bag, made to resemble a nearly empty bag of corn chips, is made from glossy calfskin and comes in three different flavours, er, colours; yellow for cheese and onion, red for chilli, and blue for salt and vinegar. The theme “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” presumably is referencing the goblin mode one enters when presented with a big bag of snacks and absolutely no intention of getting out of bed.

It’s not the first time that the controversial fashion label has appropriated everyday items and used them as farshun, having released a replica of the big blue Ikea bag for a cool $2,847 back in 2017. Fortunately the Balenciaga chip bag is a little more reasonable at $2,750.
