Let's hear it for the new MVP of work lunches!

The algorithm has brought you back time and time again to the cute little microwave toastie maker. So what’s the deal and why is everyone going crazy for the must-have kitchen gadget?

What is a microwave toastie maker?

A microwave toastie maker is exactly what it sounds like. The $15 Kmart one going viral right now is made of two non-stick aluminium plates with a flexible silicone case. It sounds like alchemy and we’re not sure we’re smart enough to figure out how metal is safe to go into a microwave but life needs a little mystery.

How does the microwave toastie maker work?

The little sandwich press works by conducting microwaves from your appliance and heating up the aluminium plates. The direct contact of the aluminium on the bread makes for a super crisp toastie that you would never expect from a microwave oven.

How do you use the microwave toastie maker?

It’ll feel weird, but trust the process. Simply assemble your sandwich as you would any other jaffle: buttered exterior, cheese, ham, tomato, then pop it into the toastie maker. Clamp down the lid and seal the silicone locks, place it in your microwave on high for 2-3 minutes (flipping halfway through) and voila!

Is it worth getting?

According to converts, the microwave toastie maker is a game-changer. Not only is it super easy to clean, it doesn’t require time to heat up like a conventional sandwich press, can be carried to and from work in your bag, and makes great toasties every time.

Where can you buy the microwave toastie maker?

The Anko product retails from $15 and is available at Kmart and Target.
