Adidas' new sneakers are a food lover's dream

They look good enough to eat, almost.

Instead of carrying your takeaway pizza home, you may get to wear it, thanks to American artist Jen Mussari who has set Internet hearts aflame with her unique design of pepperoni pizza sneakers.

The Adidas Ultraboost sneakers are painted yellow with red and white lines and have 3-D pepperoni pieces and a slice of pizza hanging off the side. While they (almost) look good enough to eat, sadly they are not edible. The shoes were created as part of a unique collaboration between Adidas and media company Refinery29 where 10 celebrated female artists (plus a Refinery29 fashion editor) were commissioned to design 50 one-of-a-kind runners. The 50 pairs of running shoes represented each of the American states, and Mussari’s represented New Jersey’s love affair with “pizza-pie”.

Other artists were also inspired by individual states’ culinary delights – Lizzie Darden designed and made a cheese-inspired pair for the state of Wisconsin as well as peach-themed runners for Georgia, which is known as the peach state.

The shoes were auctioned on the Adidas website in order to raise money for Women Win, a charity that supports adolescent girls to exercise their rights through sport. Sadly for us, the appetite for the unique runners was large and they have all sold out. But let’s hope that a similar Australian initiative isn’t too far away. Lamington sneakers, anyone?
