Home bakers around the world are turning their flatbreads into floral-inspired landscapes. Blank dough canvases are being decorated with lush green fields of parsley and asparagus, where yellow capsicum sunflowers grow alongside tomato rosebuds and spring onion stalks. Image: @blondieandrye

The growing trend was believed to have been started by Teri Culletto, a home baker in Massachusetts, who shared a Vincent van Gogh-inspired focaccia to her Instagram account @vineyardbaker at the beginning of last year.

Coloured tomatoes, capsicums, capers, olives, asparagus, mushrooms, red onion and potato are the most common toppings used. If you’re working with vegetables that have a high water content, such as tomatoes, pat them dry on a paper towel first to ensure the colours don’t run. Image: @blondieandrye
