And the Robert Gordon x Williams Sonoma range is exactly what your table needs.
Entertainers will be all too familiar with Robert Gordon. The Melbourne-based family business has been crafting dinnerware for Australians since the 1930s and remains a must-have for pottery fans around the country. Now the company has partnered with equally beloved US homewares giant Williams Sonoma for a special new collaboration; the Ghost Gum Collection.
It’s the first Australian partnership for Williams Sonoma and has become an ode to our nation’s unique landscape to cater to a growing local fanbase. “Collaborating with iconic Australian ceramics house Robert Gordon allowed us to create a range specifically for our local customers,” says Williams Sonoma global vice president Michelle Hummel.” As a homage to the local landscape and palettes, the collection is handcrafted by skilled artisans to create a uniquely Australian-inspired dining experience.”

The landscape has inspired form, pattern and palette, and not for the first time says creative director of Robert Gordon Australia Kate Gordon. “Increasingly, we are turning to the natural colours of our environment for inspiration. The beautiful, ever-changing colours of the eucalyptus provide the hues – from soft pinks and smoky greys right through to deep, earthy browns. The line where the sky meets the sea provides the background canvas for the hand-painted leaves.”
Of course, the design process is a tedious one; each design is the result of hours of research and development in hand-painted, reactive-style glazes. Each piece is dipped into three separate background glazes in order to achieve the desired effect, with the leaf motifs then applied by hand. This technique also means that no two designs are alike, and is made to last a lifetime (depending on how raucous your dinner parties are of course).
Prices for the Ghost Gum collection start at $28, with pieces available in store and online from June 29.
