Artist (and all round creative) Luke Edward Hall first travelled to the Amalfi Coast four years ago, falling in love with the district. It was during this trip that he met Carla Sersale (founder and creative director of the Emporio Sirenuse stores which accompanies the iconic Le Sirenuse hotel). A fan of his trademark scribbles, Sersale asked Hall to collaborate on a fashion and lifestyle collection; “We began with a small postcard,” she says, “and ended with a capsule collection that includes mugs, plates, t-shirts, men’s shirts and swimming trunks”. The Luke Edward Hall for Le Sirenuse Positano capsule collection is currently available in the two Emporio Sirenuse stores in Positano and online.

Two key designs feature on the resulting collection; one is Hall’s take on Positano’s iconic view including the town’s parish church Santa Maria Assunta. “I wanted it to look like it could have been sketched casually at breakfast from the terrace of Le Sirenuse,” he explains. The second is a pattern of line-drawn faces inspired by cult film Call Me By Your Name. “I adored Italian director Luca Guadagnino’s Oscar-winning film Call Me By Your Name,” he explains, “and the book by André Aciman that it’s based on.” In fact, the film’s main character Elio is seen in a printed shirt reminiscent of Hall’s work in the movie’s final scene. “Quite a few friends contacted me after seeing the film to ask if that was my design,” he says, “it wasn’t – but I decided it would be fun to do my own version.”

It’s not the first collaboration for the 28-year-old British artist, who has produced a range for American lifestyle brand Anthropologie among others in the past. Hall studied menswear design at London’s Central Saint Martin’s but moved into design after working at both architectural firms and as a solo designer. “I try not to label what I do,” explains Hall whose work encompasses painting, drawing, graphic design, interior design and fashion.
