The Arnott’s Cream Favourites is a pillar in every Aussie household. Offered when guests are over, purchased to have on hand “just in case”, or wheeled out after dinnertime for some good old dunking, this classic variety pack is as reliable as it gets. But with a selection of five distinct flavours, it’s often contested which one reigns supreme. That’s why we polled our delicious. audience on Facebook on which biscuit is the best. With over two and half thousand votes, we now have the data to back up this very important debate.
Unsurprisingly, this chocolate biscuit was left in the dust, just like it’s left in the packet when no one picks it at tea-time. It’s obvious these cream-filled cocoa biscuits were made in 1926, as they seem to be nobody’s favourite in the modern day. The lack of love in the comments for this forgotten biscuit reiterates its place behind the pack.
This one hits a sore spot for me, as personally I could happily go for an Orange Slice if my favourite biscuit (more on that later) is all out. But I seem to be an outlier. One of the comments even said that “orange ones go straight in the bin”. Ouch. Seems like this zesty citrus number doesn’t have many fans backing it in its corner.
This one came at no surprise as the Shortbread Cream was designed to be an inoffensive biscuit, enjoyable for the masses. The buttery shortbread and cream filling means most people won’t say no if offered this for dunking, but it also means it doesn’t stand out as a hero flavour.
They’re the grandma of the Arnott’s world and my favourite Arnott’s biscuit for a reason. We get why they’re not included in the Cream Favourites as the filling is technically a jam but… potato, potahto. Arnott’s should make an exception for this crumbly shortbread-jam combo as it came up time and time again in our comments section.
The omission of the Lemon Crisp from Arnott’s Cream Favourites is quite the point of contention. Why this sophisticated blend of salty, cracker-like biscuit with a zesty lemon cream filling is left out of the variety pack is beyond my knowledge and something I’ll need to take to the higher ups.
Who remembers the Creamy Chocolate and Shortbread Cream individually wrapped combo? It was an elite snack to be given as it satisfied everyone’s vanilla and chocolate cravings. But for reasons unbeknownst to us, Arnott’s discontinued this creamy concoction in the early 2000s and we think it’s time for a revival.
Now this is where things get contentious, because a Monte Carlo is my ride-or-die in a Creams Favourite. But the delicious. audience tends to disagree, as evidenced by this somewhat lacklustre score. With two coconut and honey biscuits filled with smooth vanilla cream wrapped in a chewy jam, this Mediterranean classic has been robbed of its rightful throne.
The blistering pace this biscuit set for first place proves that size doesn’t matter when it comes to Aussie’s favourite Arnott’s Cream biscuit. The Kingston consists of a decadent choc cream filling between two home-style crunchy coconut-oaty biscuits, and it’s that salty-sweet combo that seems to draw in its devout following.
