PInch and Nom has taken the cookbook scene by storm this month.
A dieting book has topped the book charts in recent weeks, pushing one of the world’s top celebrity chefs out of its way to become the fastest selling non-fiction book ever. The tome in question? Pinch of Nom, a ‘slimming’ cookbook courtesy of Kate Allinson and Kay Featherstone that sold 210,506 copies in the UK alone in its first 72 hours according to Nielsen BookScan. This is the highest recorded single week sale for a non-fiction book since Nielsen began tracking sales back in 2001.
This means that in that time Allinson and Featherstone have somehow managed to kick Jamie Oliver with Jamie’s Italy off his perch, the man who sold 154,769 copies in one week in 2005. The only titles to beat Pinch of Nom’s first week success include eight novels, five of which are by a certain JK Rowling. “Perhaps most shockingly of all, it knocked Mary Berry’s Quick Cooking from the hardback non-fiction No 1 — I repeat, Mary Berry has been knocked from the hardback non-fiction No 1 spot before Mother’s Day,” Bookseller’s charts and data editor Kiera O’Brien told The Guardian UK.
It seems that the world is still obsessed with cooking, but especially when there’s calorie-counting. Pinch and Nom was of course already a success prior to the book launch, the 2016 creation currently stands as the UK’s leading food blog. Boasting 1.5 million community members, Pinch of Nom is an ongoing source of inspiration for those within the dieting community, taking note of calories, type, and integrating popular dieting programs like Weight Watchers and Slimming World.
“We have been absolutely blown away by the support for this book from our community, booksellers and everyone who has picked up a copy this week,” Allinson and Featherstone released in a statement. “We know it can be hard to be inspired in the kitchen if you are trying to lose weight and all we ever wanted to do with Pinch of Nom is to help people create delicious home cooked slimming meals that don’t taste bland or boring. To think that the book is out there being used in kitchens across the UK is incredible and we really want to thank our Pinch of Nom community.”
