The world’s oldest man has revealed his secret to long life - and it comes down to diet.

The secret to eternal youth is simple. Or so said the world’s oldest man Francisco Núñez Olivera, who passed away last week at the ripe old age of 113.

By all accounts Olivera lived the simple life. Born in picturesque Bienvenida, he lived in the quaint Spanish village until he died, tending to the fields. And alongside his genes, and hard work, Olivera attributed his lengthy life to his diet.

Despite not having had teeth since the 1970s, Olivera tucked into nutty sponge cake for breakfast every day accompanied by the fermented milk drink of Actimel. Lunchtime saw fish or stew served, with yoghurt for a snack later in the day. And to finish, a warm bowl of cereal.

What else was key? Olivera believed in a diet rich in grown vegetables by his own hands, walked regularly and went to sleep at 8 pm each night. And, last but not least, a daily glass of red wine.

Proof that if you want to live longer, there’s no harm in reaching for that bottle…
