It's not just sour grapes.

In the world of viral food trends, Fruit Riot’s frozen sour grapes are the latest snack taking over TikTok. The simple snack has become a social media phenomenon, with thousands of users sharing their reactions, recreations and creative twists on the refreshing and healthy treat.

Fruit Riot, a relatively new player in the snack biz, has gained attention for their deliciously addictive sour fruit, which are frozen and coated with a tangy, zesty coating. Fruits in the range include grapes, mango, pineapple, mixed berry, and green apple. The product is so popular that stores in the US are struggling to keep their freezer sections stocked, and social media creators have been getting, well, creative to get their fix.

Is Fruit Riot available in Australia?

The bad news is that Fruit Riot isn’t yet available in Australia. The good news is that it’s easy to duplicate the viral treat. All you need is some fruit of your choice, cut into bite-sized pieces, some sugar, lemon, and citric acid.

A frozen, sweet and sour, fruity snack sounds like such a summer vibe and a genius way to use up the tray of mangoes we’re powerless to resist from the highway shoulder.

How do you make Fruit Riot sours at home?

We’re glad you asked! It couldn’t be simpler. Here’s how to make your own Fruit Riot snacks.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of fresh grapes
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 cup of caster sugar
  • 2 tbsp citric acid

Method

  1. In a bowl, combine the caster sugar and citric acid – for a more sour mix simply add extra citric acid.
  2. In another bowl, coat your grapes (or whatever fruit you like) generously in lemon juice.
  3. Place the grapes into the sugar mix and toss to cover.
  4. Freeze for at least three hours then enjoy!

You can eat the refreshing fruit just as it is, add it to cocktails or salads, or make your own clever sugar mix – we’re thinking mango with a little bit of sugar and chilli powder wouldn’t go astray.
