From edamame to elderflower.
Edamame
What? The Japanese name for green (fresh) soybeans, available frozen (in their pods or shelled) and usually brined.
Where? Asian food shops and selected supermarkets.
How? Boil or steam frozen edamame in their pods, sprinkle with sea salt flakes or shichimi togarashi (chilli powder) and serve with drinks. Add shelled beans to Asian salads, soups and stir-fries.
Elderflower cordial
What? A mild, aromatic cordial made by indfusing the white or cream-coloured flowers of the elder or elderberry tree.
Where? Selected supermarkets and gourmet food shops.
How? Add a dash to a gin and tonic or cocktails, splash a little over strawberries or add to desserts to give a sweet floral note.
