South Australia’s Banana Boogie Bakery has been crowned as Australia’s best bakery of 2026 at the Australian Small Business Champion Awards.

This is far from the first time the bakery has been been recognised with an award – it has also won Australia’s best sausage roll for the past three years in a row, and took out Australia’s best vanilla slice in 2024 and best hot cross bun in 2023.

The bakery, which has locations in Belair and North Plympton, is owned by couple Jason and Kelly Spencer. The pair were present at the awards ceremony, which was held at The Star Sydney on May 2. Posting about the victory on social media, they said:

“After taking out the state title late last year, we thought we’d throw our hat in the ring at a national level… and what do you know.

“This one means a lot.

“To our team – the early mornings, the pressure, the consistency you bring every day… this is yours. To everyone who supports us across both stores – thank you. You back us hard and push us to keep raising the bar.

“We’re proud of what we’ve built… and we’re not slowing down anytime soon. See you in the shop.”

Speaking to The Advertiser, Jason said he and Kelly were not expecting to win.

“We were already a nationally recognised bakery, winning best sausage roll three years in a row, but it was still very surprising,” he said. “It’s hard in small business, so it’s very exciting to be recognised as the best small-business bakery in Australia.

“We give it our best every day; we step into the bakery and strive to have perfect products.”

That hard work has clearly paid off, and luckily for pastry lovers, the proof is in the display cabinet. So, next time you’re in Adelaide, you know where to go.
