You won't believe how many Australians dunk their hot cross buns in their tea

Is this a trend set to take hold?

Easter is inching ever closer, if you couldn’t tell from the mountain of hot cross buns surrounding us at present. And we couldn’t be happier according to a recent survey conducted by Woolworths, with most of us are fans of the treat -eight out of ten Australians have proclaimed their love for the Easter favourite.

But rather shockingly perhaps is the rising trend in how we choose to eat the doughy treat – 9 percent of Australians like to dunk their hot cross buns in their drink of choice, rather like a biscuit. Typically this is a warm drink, with the majority taking to hot chocolate with their hot cross buns (55 percent in fact), while 35 percent turn to tea and 32 percent coffee. Perhaps the most confusing is the party who claim that they like to dip their hot cross buns in juice, which is 12 percent of dippers.

The rising trend is most common in Millennials, with 17 percent of the generation dubbing themselves dippers. It seems that Millennials are just a group of people eager to buck tradition, with 70 percent of 18-24 year olds preferring less traditional hot cross bun options, like those containing white chocolate.

Still a fan of the traditional yourself? Don’t worry we’ve got you covered with our collection of the country’s best hot cross bun offerings.
