We're sorry, Big Day Out. It wasn't you, it's us.
If video killed the radio star, then MasterChef killed the rock star. Or at least replaced him with Colin Fassnidge.
More than half of people (52 percent, to be exact) of people aged 21 to 32 would rather go to a food festival than a music festival.
It was just one of the findings from News Life Media‘s (publisher of this website) Appetite for Life study.
As well as revealing that most of us prefer a cronut over a concert, the study found that a whopping 42 percent of us now consider ourselves a “foodie”. And our greatest source of pleasure? For three out of five – or 60 percent of people – it’s food.
So, forget muscle tees – it turns out that daggy wineglass lanyard is the must-have accessory of the summer.
Here are four food festivals to keep an eye out for:
- Taste of Melbourne kicks off from today (Nov 12) until Nov 15, at Albert Park.
- Margaret River Gourmet Escape is on from Nov 20-22, in Western Australia’s best known wine region.
- Rootstock is not your average wine festival; get along to Sydney’s Carriageworks from Nov 28 to 29 to celebrate (and taste) sustainable wine with plenty of quirky side shows.
- Tasmania’s food, produce, arts and showcase, Taste of Tasmania, runs over New Years Eve, from Dec 28 until Jan 3.
- And if you want to a do something a little different this Valentine’s Day (Feb 14), Sydney’s Meatstock will be an epic mashup of meat and music.
