The vegan roast that started an online war

Gordon Ramsay and Piers Morgan have come to blows over a humble roast.

A social media war has erupted over a vegan roast with Gordon Ramsay and Piers Morgan (two men all too familiar with controversy) coming to blows on Twitter over a plant-based take on the family favourite.

Despite a long-time devotion to the carnivorous life, and a quite outspoken hatred of vegetarian cuisine, celebrity chef Ramsay recently unveiled his latest addition to London restaurant Bread Street was a vegan version of the Sunday roast. He announced in a post: “It’s happened….the roast has landed at @breadstkitchen! ” accompanying a video of his veggie-laden dish being smothered in (no-doubt vegan) gravy.

In typical Morgan fashion, the British journalist shared his disbelief in public. “Oh [for f— sake], Ramsay… not you as well? This looks utterly revolting,” he posted to his account.

Ramsay waited till an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden to address the debacle. “So Piers Morgan is now a food critic,” he commented, “Go and f- yourself. Seriously, really? Seriously?”

He explained that his recent embrace of more vegetarian-friendly meals was simply the result of his children. “Here’s the thing,” he explained, “we have three girls. Moving trends. I mean, veganism is on the rise, so we ought to adapt. So [I] just have to eat a slice of humble pie.”

You would think that Ramsay’s comments would silence Morgan, for a bit anyway. However, you’d be wrong. Following the show, Morgan took to Twitter to protest that “Ramsay’s shamed face says it all.. he knows I’m right.”
