Three is a magic number – especially when it comes to sweet treats.
Tag your siblings, cousins, and anyone else you fought over tubs of ice cream with as a kid: KitKat has announced its summery new limited-edition flavour, inspired by the classic Neapolitan trio of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla.
The nostalgic new blocks and bars are inspired by the three-flavour tubs often purchased by adults hoping to cater to the tastes of multiple picky (or indecisive) children. Controversially, rather than neat rows of three different colours, per the standard arrangement, the milk chocolate flavour is distributed throughout the block as the base, while as you can see in the above image, the strawberry and vanilla flavours alternate on the top levels.

This all-in-together structure will be pleasing to that one weird uncle who would always cavalierly spoon across the Neapolitan tub and serve you an unholy striped scoop of all three flavours smeared together at once, instead of just a pure, vertically oriented single-flavour scoop of each as the ice cream gods intended. However, it does make it harder for your sister to hog all the strawberry bits this time around… unless she snaps each pink row off individually and leaves you all the vanilla ones.
For this advance in the field of sibling grudge resolution, and their continued efforts in chocolate flavour innovation – from Milo to a full Christmas dinner – we salute the mad geniuses at KitKat HQ.
The Neapolitan flavour will be available in retailers nationwide starting in early January.
What’s the stuff in the middle layer of a KitKat?
If you just want good old choc on choc, the classic KitKat is always there for you, with its milky layers of chocolate, wafer and its own smushed-up buddies. (It’s true! KitKat’s middle layer is made up of… crushed KitKats.)
