Ice cream for everyone! Macca's is testing dairy-free ice cream so no one misses out

McDonald's UK Vegan Frozen Dessert

Here's the scoop.

Macca’s in the UK has dropped two new dairy-free ice creams, which are officially accredited as vegan by the Vegetarian Society.

Available in two flavours, the strawberry and chocolate scoops are currently in the trial phase and could become a permanent menu item if they prove popular enough (please, UK, do the right thing for the lactose-intolerant folks among us).

The desserts have been received very positively by those who have tried them, with a Reddit user describing the treats as “really creamy” and a “cross between soft serve and regular ice cream.”

While there’s no word yet on the rollout and what that may look like, it would be a welcome addition for the fast-food-deprived vegans Down Under. At the moment, no McDonald’s dishes have a vegetarian or vegan certification – due largely to potential cross-contamination with animal products.

Until then, you can always visit Mr Charlie’s, the ‘vegan McDonald’s’ in Redfern that sells plant-based versions of the Macca’s menu.
