The new frontier in food apps.
Ever had a bumper crop of cucumbers you just couldn’t finish before they turned soft and soggy? Way too many avocados (if, indeed, there is such a thing)? Lemons for days? Sure, you could pass them on to your neighbours. You could preserve them. You could even compost them. Or you could pass them on to someone who actually wants them, knowing they’ve found the right home.
Husband and wife team Alistair and Helena Martin feel you. The Adelaide couple created the app RipeNearMe when they noticed their neighbours’ citrus tree fruit was only being eaten by some lucky birds, and figured there had to be a better way. The app is a platform for people to share, buy and even sell their produce. It’s in beta stages at the moment, but you could always donate to their Kickstarter if you want to see it in an app store sooner. Visit ripenear.me for more details.
