Martha & Snoop’s Dinner Party promises to be a cooking show with a difference.
It’s hard to pinpoint the exact moment that Martha Stewart became “dope”. Perhaps it was when she got done for insider training and spent time in the slammer. (Prison time and street cred are synonymous in some circles.) Perhaps it was when bad boy photographer Terry Richardson called her his “muse” and shot her for a number of magazines.
Whenever it was, one thing’s for certain: Stewart is no longer just hugely successful. She’s cool as hell as well. If you think we might be overstating it, just consider her latest collaboration.
Stewart has announced that she is teaming up with rapper Snoop Dogg for a new VH1 series with the working title Martha & Snoop’s Dinner Party. The series promises a “half-baked evening of cocktails, cooking [and] conversation … where nothing is off limits.”
The unlikely duo have previously appeared together on Comedy Central’s roast of Justin Bieber and, more recently, on a US game show called $100,000 Pyramid. Snoop Dogg has also cooked with Stewart, appearing on her talk show in the past, where he helped her cook mashed potatoes. (“I’ve never done it with a machine. We in the hood. We like, ‘Yap! Yap! Yap’,” he said.)
“At our dinner party, we will exemplify America’s fascination with food, entertaining and celebrity,” Stewart said in a statement. “Martha & Snoop’s Dinner Party will redesign the traditional food competition shows in a new, different and very funny way.”
Snoop Dogg concurred. “My homegirl, Martha and I have a special bond that goes back,” he said. “We’re gonna be cooking, drinking and having a good time with our exclusive friends. Can’t wait for you to see how we roll together!”
There really can be no denying it. Martha Stewart is in da hood.
