There’ll be truffle pasta, truffle toasties, truffle prosecco - even truffle souvlaki.

The hunt for black gold is on again, with Melbourne’s annual truffle festival just a few weeks away.

Gourmands looking to get their fix should head down to the Queen Victoria Market on June 22 – 23 for two days of cooking demonstrations, live music, entertainment and truffle snuffling.  This year, there will be plenty of delicacies to try including truffle pizzas, truffle raclette, truffle toasties and truffle pasta, plus funky fungi creations like truffle baos and truffle falafel souvlaki.

For the first time ever, the festival will have a truffle truck on site, serving up truffle-topped wagyu burgers, truffle chips and truffle terrine from morning till night.

If you haven’t quite satisfied your appetite for truffles yet, you will also be able to quaff a glass of sparkling truffle prosecco, truffle cider or truffle beer, and for the non-drinkers, there’ll be truffle hot chocolates and truffle caps.

If you’ve got a better idea for a dish, you can always buy some fresh Victorian or Western Australian truffles for shaving later as well as a range of truffle-infused oils, salts and pastes to keep the pantry stocked and your dinner guests impressed.

As for entertainment, you’ll get the chance to meet Arrow and Spice, two very good dogs and expert noses who will be showing the crowds how it’s done with a mock truffle hunt.

For those more interested in the real deal, there will be plenty of opportunities to play the world’s tastiest game of hide and seek at one of the state’s many truffières with truffle hunts scheduled for most weekend in June, July, August and September.
