Ice cream is undergoing a complete overhaul in 2019.
Just as we get over the fact that Messina is now available in supermarkets, in the height of summer the ice cream gods have bestowed us the gift of vegan Magnums and Cornettos.
The frozen treats, which were once often out of bounds for vegans and those with dairy intolerances, are now available from selected convenience stores and supermarkets around the country.
But what do they look like exactly? And more importantly, what are they made from?
Magnums:
Both classic and almond flavoured Magnums are now available in dairy-free options (vegan certified), featuring a velvety pea protein ice cream covered in dairy-free chocolate. You’ll find these available as a three-pack nationwide in convenience stores and supermarkets for $7.
Cornetto:
Made with soy ice cream, the new Vegan Cornetto features the same hazelnut topping and wafer cone as the original, but contains vegan chocolate. A pack of four will set you back $9, and is available nationwide from Woolworths stores only.
Ben & Jerry’s
Parent company Streets (itself a Unilever brand) has also unveiled four new Ben & Jerry’s flavours made using almond milk – including cinnamon bun, peanut butter, cookies and cream as well as a fudge brownie version, as part of the release.
Run, don’t walk because if the Messina rush was anything to go by these won’t last long.
