At least, that’s what guys seem to think.
A study published in the journal Evolutionary Psychological Science has found that a man will eat up to 92 percent more food in the company of a woman than in the company of other guys.
The researchers from Cornell University studied 105 subjects dine repeatedly at an all-you-can-eat Italian restaurant, where they chowed down on pizza slices and salads. Men averaged 1.44 more slices when dining with a female, and 86 percent more salad, while their lady-friends ate about the same amount, regardless of who they were dining with.
What’s the take-away? Men eat more to show off when on dates, the researchers suggested, and the old female attitude of “I’ll just have a salad” has died out.
The 105 subjects also had to complete surveys after their meals, though, and the women reported feeling more full after dining with a male companion, even though they ate the same amount of food.
Science has also taught us not to date hangry, but if you really want to impress that special someone, we have the perfect romantic menu (recipes included!).
