The famed chef is making mid-week meals easier.
Yotam Ottolenghi. A household name and food superstar. The chef has amassed an empire of eateries throughout London and beyond, and a burgeoning array of cookbooks to match (including Simple and Flavour). Now, he’s about to make those mid-week meals even easier thanks to his new range of sauces and spices hitting the shelves at a national Australian supermarket chain for the first time.
Featuring a similar range of Middle Eastern flavours to those featured in his famed cookbooks and restaurants, the new supermarket lineup stars 10 different ready-to-use jarred products – and is launching in Woolworths Australia-wide this November.

There’s Chilli Sauce with fermented jalapenos recommended for spooning over hummus, eggs or baked feta; the umami-packing Miso Pesto to toss through pasta or slather on flatbread; Green Harissa to swirl into yoghurt; and Roasted Aubergine & Tomato Sauce perfect for lasagne or moussaka.
Plus, a Kalamata Olive & Harissa Sauce, a zingy Citrus & Spice seasoning and a Pomegranate, Rose & Preserved Lemon Harissa paste. Pomegranate and rose are two flavours found throughout Ottolenghi’s many popular recipes – so we’re thinking this jar may very quickly become a best-seller.
Ottolenghi’s new retail range was first launched in the UK’s Waitrose supermarket chain in April this year and now it’s finally making its way Down Under. At the time of launch, Ottolenghi said: “Ottolenghi to the masses… Well, not quite, but I have always been super eager to get our flavours onto people’s dinner plates nationwide, not just in London, without having to cook it from scratch every single time. I am so happy with our new range of sauces, marinades and spices, which does exactly that: Ottolenghi flavours, cooked at home, with no effort at all. I hate to admit it but the pasta sauce already features heavily in my home kitchen, when no one is looking.”
Our food team has been experimenting with the new products in the delicious. test kitchen, and have come up with a super-easy 5-ingredient pasta using Ottolenghi Miso Pesto. Want to give a twirl at home? You’ll need:
200g spaghetti
2 tbs extra virgin olive oil, plus extra, to drizzle
2 small zucchini, thinly sliced
⅓ cup (90g) Ottolenghi Miso Pesto
2 tbs finely grated parmesan
Basil leaves, to serve
To make it, cook the spaghetti in a large saucepan of boiling, salted water following packet instructions until al dente. Drain, reserving a little cooking water.
Meanwhile, heat oil in a large frypan over high heat. Cook zucchini, tossing, for 5 minutes, or until golden. Reduce heat to low. Stir in Miso Pesto, then add drained spaghetti. Stir to combine, adding a little reserved cooking liquid to loosen, if needed. Season to taste.
Sprinkle with parmesan and basil and serve drizzled with a little extra oil.
Ottolenghi’s new range of ready-to-use sauces will be available at select Woolworths supermarkets Australia-wide from the end of November. You can check availability at your local store via woolworths.com.au
