"When I make my collard greens, I often think about my ancestors and the sacrifices they made to make sure our community had food and culture that we could call our own. I also think about how recipes change and evolve over time. Like many collard green recipes, I flavour mine with pork-ham steak, and hit mine with red pepper flakes and Crystal hot sauce to make 'em extra kickin' and lickin'. Don't forget, playas: like my momma always said, before you start cooking, wash those collard greens well. You don't want no dirt or sand messin' up your pot of goodness."
