If pairing cured meats with a sweet fruit bun sounds a bit ‘weird’ to you, prepare to be converted! The magic here lies in the ultimate sweet and salty contrast. The warm spices and sweet bursts of fruit in the hot cross bun pair perfectly with the salty, umami-rich prosciutto, sharp parmesan and mild, creamy mozzarella, creating an incredibly addictive, gooey toastie that hits every flavour note.
You’ll need a sandwich press for this recipe (or see recipe notes).

Ingredients (5)
- 4 hot cross buns, halved horizontally
- 4 thin slices prosciutto
- 1/3 cup (25g) finely grated parmesan
- 100g mozzarella, thinly sliced
- Softened butter, to brush
Don't forget you can add these ingredients to your Woolworths shopping list.
CloseMethod
-
1.Preheat a sandwich press.
-
2.Top bun bases with prosciutto, parmesan and mozzarella. Top with bun tops. Brush bun tops with butter and cook in the hot sandwich press for 3-4 minutes, until toasted and cheese has melted. Serve.
Recipe Notes
You can also cook these toasties in a frypan over medium heat. Place a clean plate on top, weighed down with a can of food, and flip halfway through to toast each side.
