No, this cocktail recipe doesn't contain the same 'ranch' you'd typically dress your salad with or dip your pizza crusts in. While its origin is also American – Austin, specifically – the ranch water is made of three ingredients: tequila, lime juice and soda water (if you're in the States, you'd typically use Topo Chico for the latter).

Ingredients (6)

  • Ice cubes, to serve
  • 1 pinch of sea salt
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 40ml blanco tequila
  • 120ml soda water
  • Lime wheels to garnish

Don't forget you can add these ingredients to your Woolworths shopping list.

Method

  • 1.
In a high-ball glass, add salt, lime juice and tequila, and stir until the salt is dissolved.
  • 2.
Add soda water gently so your glass is about two-thirds full, leaving room for ice.
  • 3.
Stir carefully so as to maintain the fizz from the soda water.
  • 4.
Fill the glass with fresh ice.
  • 5.
    Garnish with fresh lime wheels.
