A local guides us through the zen-inducing and feel-good offerings of her home city.
With its mollifying river and beachside locales, its stunning new stays and its nourishing eateries, Perth is fast becoming a hub for those seeking reprieve. And yet, beyond these elements, a range of wellbeing-oriented sites are popping up around town.
We spoke to Perth local Alex Wilson, founder of Heartwood, a wellbeing concept store, to find out what makes WA’s capital an ideal place to find balance.

Alex’s family are pioneers of the Indian sandalwood plantation industry in Australia, and, having grown up immersed in the world of fragrant and beautiful
wood, her love for the natural world was fostered from a young age.’

“There’s been plenty of development in the ‘wellbeing’ space in Perth. I think that our way of life, which is centred around the beach and great weather, naturally lends itself to innovation in wellness,” she says.
A few of Perth’s best wellbeing spaces for fitness, food and fun include:
Heartwood
“When you walk into Heartwood, it’s not what you expect from a standard wellbeing store. Beyond its beautiful products, we’ve worked really hard to create a full wellbeing experience – touching every sense: the calming fragrance of sandalwood, great music, the ability to crash in an armchair and have a cup of tea if you feel like it, have an unreal facial, massage or even make your own natural scent.”

Yogaworx (Cottesloe and Swanbourne)
Mal Yates runs the most hardcore yoga class in Perth with the best vibes – you might bump into Julie Bishop at one of his classes!
Nature’s Harvest (Cottesloe)
This place makes a mean smoothie and the best egg sandwiches.
Manna Wholefoods (South Fremantle)
A staple in South Fremantle where you can find the freshest organic produce, healthy meals, advice from a naturopath, and everything is delicious.
The Raw Kitchen (Fremantle)
World-class wholefood cuisine set within a quiet but central part of Fremantle.
Bikebar (Claremont and Applecross)
You’ll feel like a million bucks after their high intensity bike party – book ahead as these classes are so popular that it’s hard to get a seat!
A wellness hub with some of Perth’s best massage therapists, naturopaths, acupuncturists, and integrative GPs.
