Heading to the Northern Rivers? We got the inside scoop on the best places to eat and drink from two of the region's top chefs.
Chefs Alanna Sapwell-Stone and Matt Stone call this breezy corner of NSW home, where they’re as likely to be found frequenting their own Mosey On Inn Group venues as anywhere else. Here are Alanna and Matt’s go-to places for eating and drinking on the Northern Rivers.

Best new venue: Baloney’s Deli. It also does $2 standing espressos: bring on affordability with an Italian touch.
Best place to blow the budget: The Hut (we highly recommend the amaro trolley to finish).
Best place to pinch pennies: The Eltham: our go-to is the roo hot dog or wild boar ragu with paccheri pasta.
Best date night spot: Bar Heather. It’s the combination of moody lighting, fantastic food and epic wine.
Best comfort meal: The Salty Mangrove. It’s seemingly effortless, uses local ingredients and, most importantly, is darn tasty. David Moyle always surprises you.

Best market: Byron Farmers Market, on Thursdays.
Most underrated venue: Mullumbimby Continental, from snacks to substantials with a home touch; and Bertie’s, because everyone loves a good sandwich (especially when wine’s also on offer), and it’s on the way to Ballina Airport.
Best spot for a drink: You Beauty. From unpretentious yet delicious cocktails like frosé (French rosé turned slushie) or midori margaritas, to a wine list that promotes regenerative farming and sustainable practices.
Best coffee: Happy Days. They happen to have great neighbours (Beam Coffee) roasting next door which helps, and Ebs and Hamish do everything with precision and care.
Best takeaway: Ciao, Mate! Chef Rob has tweaked these pizzas to perfection. Go for the salami & hot honey.
