And her name is Maggie Beer.
If Kangaroo Island hadn’t already lured you in with its natural beauty or bounty of produce, then surely its 2018 events calendar will. Namely the KI Food Safari expected to make its way to the South Australian destination mid-2018.
Hosted between July 28 to August 4, the next instalment will be the sixth in the series, and is a part of the much loved luxury lodge’s 10th birthday celebrations. To make the occasion especially commemorative, Maggie Beer will be leading the charge for 2018.
Guests will make daily expeditions to the gourmet producers of Kangaroo Island, accompanied by Maggie, and Southern Ocean Lodge Executive Chef Asher Blackford. Former Lodge Chef Tim Bourke, who conceived the Baillie Lodges local-produce philosophy, will also make a guest appearance.
Baillie Lodges owner James Baillie says that the 2018 event will be a reunion of sorts, offering an opportunity to mingle with some of the state’s most passionate chefs and producers. “We’ve been incredibly lucky to have worked with some fabulous food visionaries in the past and present, including Maggie Beer, Tim Bourke and Asher Blackford, who have established great relationships with many of Kangaroo Island’s producers,” he comments. “These local suppliers’ of fine food, wines, spirits and beers have shaped the dynamic menu at Southern Ocean Lodge.”
“The 2018 KI Food Safari is a chance to celebrate these rewarding partnerships and to welcome a growing number of farmers, vintners, distillers and brewers setting up exciting and diverse businesses on the island.”
Highlights for the 2018 event include a special dinner created by The Lane Vineyard’s Executive Chef James Brinklow, matched with wines from the acclaimed Adelaide Hills winery. There will also be a chance to visit the Island Pure sheep dairy and indulge in a lengthy lunch at Lifetime Private Retreats on the north coast.
