Mike McEnearney to open restaurant at all-new 1 Hotel Melbourne

The top Sydney chef is docking in Victoria.

Sydney is no stranger to Mike McEnearney’s food. The former Rockpool head chef re-introduced the joys of canteen-style eating with Kitchen by Mike, followed by the more refined No.1 Bent Street. What each venue had in common is championing the best local and seasonal produce, an expertise McEnearney also exercises as Creative Director of Carriageworks Farmers Market.

Now it’s Melbourne’s turn to enjoy his cooking. From Here by Mike will open at new Docklands hotel 1 Hotel Melbourne on June 19. 

The cooking is still seasonal and sustainable, but this time it’s all about local Victorian produce. 

With sustainability central to its design, it was important for 1Hotel Melbourne to ensure its flagship dining destination shared its values. McEnearney’s ingredient-first ethos and low-waste approach honours both produce and provenance.

“It’s such a natural fit – our shared commitment to sustainability, seasonality and celebrating local produce, as well as putting whole foods on our plates makes this collaboration feel effortless,” McEnearney says. 

“From Here by Mike will be a true reflection of what’s possible when like-minded people come together with a common purpose. I’m proud to bring this vision to life in a space that truly honours nature, community and above all, good food.” 

Open for breakfast lunch and dinner, the menu at From Here by Mike will be deeply seasonal, celebrating low-impact farming, hyper-local sourcing and minimal intervention. 

Dishes are designed for sharing, whether it’s freshly shucked oysters with pickled daikon and finger lime vinaigrette; twice baked goat’s cheese soufflé with rosemary cream or wood roasted cockerel with vadouvan sauce, cime di rapa and blackened leeks.

On the wine list, 40 per cent of the drops are premium Victorian labels, with a focus on winemakers who practice minimal intervention, biodynamic, organic and sustainable methods. For the cocktail menu, the bar team will carry on the sustainable theme by repurposing ingredients and working closely with the kitchen to source local, seasonal products. 

From Here by Mike will open with the launch of 1 Hotel Melbourne on June 19.
