Near Chinatown and the shopping hub of Collins, on Russel Street, Melbourne Place is at the heart of an emerging hospitality and retail hub towards the eastern side of the CBD, walking distance to many of the city’s highlights.
First look: Cocoon yourself in new luxury hotel Melbourne Place
Melbourne Place has swept back the earthen-toned curtains on its stunning property at the ‘Paris end’ of the city. And it’s given us new penthouse goals.
Interiors
Wall-to-wall in terracotta, rose and moss textiles, with silky jarrah wood carpentry, art curated by Melbourne Art Rooms (MARS) and custom furniture by cult homewares creator Jardan, the impeccable interiors have been designed by architecture and design practice Kennedy Nolan.
Rooms
The 191-room hotel includes four rooms types – Everyday, Urban, Suites and the Penthouse, a 136-sqm space complete with a baby grand piano and bespoke Jardan sofa in a space designed to accommodate intimate soirees of up to 12. Suites and the top-end Urban Corner room offer balconies for taking in the city air; with all rooms in the hotel finished with amenities from Leif, or Melbourne-born Aesop, and mini bars in which everything except alcohol is free of charge.
Restaurants
Melbourne Place executive chef Nick Deligiannis has been lured back to the city from the coast after a two-year stint at Mornington Peninsula destination restaurant Audrey’s in Sorrento. At open-air terrace restaurant Mid Air on level 12, Deligiannis has curated a Mediterranean menu focused on light, bright flavours (with a bit of French flair). At the ground floor and one below, hotly anticipated new Portuguese restaurant Marmelo and basement bar Mr Mills will be led by hospitality legends Sunny and Ross Lusted.
Details
Rooms start at $362. More hospitality and retail updates to follow soon. Melbourne Place is at 130 Russell St, Melbourne, melbourneplace.com.au
