Here's why you'll want to stay there too.
When Sophie and Nick Pearce bought their 1960s beach shack in northern New South Wales in 2015, they had little idea that it would be filling the Instagram feeds of travel lovers everywhere a few years down the track. And yet, a sophisticated renovation, a lick of white paint and stylish decor choices have sent design-savvy vacationers into an Instagramming frenzy over The Grounds of Cabarita.

The couple, who had originally intended to live in the house once complete, realised the house’s Instagram following prompted an opportunity to transform it into a holiday home.

When asked what she thought was drawing more visitors to the region, Sophie said, “I feel that Halcyon House has really been responsible for putting Cabarita Beach on the map, not only for Aussies but for people looking for a beach vacation around the world. I also feel that other beachy destinations that may have once been people’s first choice prior to Cabarita Beach are now extremely busy (Byron Bay and Noosa, for example) so people are looking elsewhere.”

Sophie insists that once first-time visitors get a taste for the beaches and laid-back culture of the neighbourhood, they tend to return. “When guests see that there are plenty of things to do, eat and see around the area, and experience the relaxed atmosphere, they want more. In the short period of time that we have rented out our house, we are already seeing people come back to stay, which is amazing”

The house comes complete with a large outdoor area, featuring a pool, lounging and dining space, and a pizza oven. The three-bedroom home sleeps six, and has proved ideal for those seeking a visually appealing stay.

Although The Grounds of Cabarita boasts a large kitchen, there are plenty of eateries nearby. Sophie’s pick for breakfast? “Tucker Casuarina. I’m potentially slightly biased as my husband is one of the owners, but it is known for some great brekkie – good, Aussie-inspired tucker. For lunch she suggests an Aperol spritz and a prawn sandwich at Paper Daisy.
