Grab your straw basket and head to Harvest, a market built by the community, for the community. Held in a car park every Saturday morning, the event shows off the best in northern Tasmanian provincial tucker. The free-range bacon’s been reared an hour away, the cultured butter churned 10 minutes down the road and coffee roasted across the river. There’s bread, salmon pate, haloumi, apples, herbs and lamb – all local. A picnic just waiting to happen, grab a stack of stuff and hit the road to the Tamar Valley. Or, hang around for a morning graze. Park yourself at one of the long, undercover share tables and start with a Korean pancake or chorizo burger. Be sure to try one of Sandy’s pastries and cauliflower cheese pie from the Wanderlust van where most things are gluten free. Live music, kids scribbling with chalk on the ground and bigger kids playing with hula hoops add to the relaxed, bubbly vibe of this funky market. Cimitiere St, Launceston (car park opposite Albert Hall), 8.30am-12.30pm every Saturday, harvestmarket.org.au
