The Mornington Peninsula has become a design destination of late, thanks to the crop of suave new accommodation options arriving in the vineyard district. The latest to garner attention is Lindenderry at Red Hill, a long-time resident that’s just had a major makeover. The boutique hotel and five star winery has been transformed by Australian design studio Hecker Guthrie. The venue has undergone a multi-million dollar refurbishment, relaunching in January of this year with its 40-room boutique hotel emerging with a look far removed from its traditional origins. It’s a refurb that’s heavy on natural materials, and earthy tones, favouring plenty of dark buttery leather, wooden floorboards, brass reading lamps, fireplaces, and the reveal of an impressive existing art and furniture collection. At the helm of Lindenderry’s interior revolution is Julian Clark, CEO of the family-owned, Melbourne-based Lancemore Group. “We have been in Red Hill for almost 20 years now and have come to understand the sensibility of the people who love this region. The reincarnation of Lindenderry is for them,” he says. “Hecker Guthrie have delivered a contemporary fusion of European country hotel design features with a distinctly Australian touch, that we hope will become something special in the Australian hotel landscape.” The venue also has a new focus on food that comes courtesy of executive chef Paul Witherington, formerly of London’s Soho House. He has brought to the venue’s restaurant a new menu that is a self-proclaimed elegant approach to hearty farmhouse fare.
