Thredbo is the perfect place to get the kids out on the slopes, no matter their level. There are first-timer classes for kids seven and up, and group or private lessons for kids who want to step up their game and make friends, too. There’s also a childcare program from kids between six months to six years, so you can spend the day tackling the black run – or the hot toddies at the bar. Whatever, it’s your holiday.

Take your pick from half-day, full-day or multi-day ski programs to get your kids or teenagers grasping the basics or perfecting their skills at Mt. Buller this winter. There’s even a ‘Bunyips’ program for kids three to six years old – it’s adorable. There are creche facilities available too.

Don’t let the name freak you out – there are plenty of easy runs at this enormous snow resort for littlies and first timers. Get them started early with the Discovery Kids program for three and four year olds. Perisher Kids is available for five to 14-year-old skiers and snowboarders of all levels and is a great way to make friends. If you book early, you can save on bundles that include hire, unrestricted lift tickets, and lessons.

Falls Creek starts ‘em early, offering ski lesson programs for kids as young as three! As an alternative to skiing, you can take the kids tobogganing or to the snow tube park (where you basically wedge yourself in a giant inflatable doughnut and whizz downhill). There are also plenty of fun things for kids throughout winter: weekly night shows with synchronised skiers and an appearance from Pete the Snow Dragon.

Kids aged three to five can join the Mighty Mites at Mt. Hotham, a lesson program of small groups to help littlies get comfy on the slopes. There are half or full-day lessons for first-timers between six and 14, and Kids Club ski and snowboard lessons for those of the same age bracket, but with a little more experience.
