In her formative years, the Camilla & Marc director completed her master’s in fashion design in Florence. Here's her guide to the Tuscan capital.
I spent 12 enriching months in the beautiful city of Florence, soaking up the culture and honing my skills as a designer at the Accademia Arte Moda.
This city and its rich history had a profound effect on me, from the food I cook at home to the pieces I love to design most. I’ve been back over five times since living there in 2003.

It’s a destination that gets better every time you visit, from the initial wonder of the beauty of the city and countryside to the art galleries and trattorias that you discover along the way. It’s a truly immersive place in every sense: the sight, the sounds, the smell, and of course, the taste.
There is such a rich art history in Florence that you can experience all over the city – from architecture in the streets, to the art in the galleries, and even the churches dotted grandiosely throughout the city. The art in Florence is truly unique and impossible to find elsewhere.

Still to this day, I remember the first time I ate the asparagus fettuccine at Hosteria da Ganino. I had never tasted such an incredible dish. It was extraordinarily rich and it really set a new standard for me.
A true Florence experience must include a bistecca alla Fiorentina (Florentine steak) at Restaurant Buca Mario. It is an institution. I actually now cook a version of its recipe for my family every week.
Aside from eating, I highly recommend a weekend getaway to Forte di Belvedere on the south bank of the river Arno, a visit to Boboli Gardens behind the Palazzo Pitti, and a cooking class.
