Fast-food goes fancy.

When you think of fast food you think cheap, cheerful, convenient and calories (lots of them). What you don’t think of is First Class. But fast food at 30,000 feet is not easy to come by, especially when it’s one of the United States’ most popular burgers.

Delta has just announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with iconic burger joint Shake Shack. The US airline will begin serving the beloved burgers on long-haul flights out of Boston from December 1, 2024. Customers sitting in First Class on routes over 900 miles will be able to pre-select a Shake Shack Cheeseburger as their meal option.

“A delicious cheeseburger is an iconic comfort food – our customers know that which is why burgers are one of the top ordered menu items we offer, and we’re thrilled to elevate the offering with Shake Shack,” said Stephanie Laster, Managing Director of Onboard Service. “However, our partnership with Shake Shack goes beyond the burger. Shake Shack’s people-first culture and commitment to enriching their neighbourhoods are spot on with our own brand values of service excellence and helping the communities we serve.”

What you get at a Shake Shack restaurant is what you’ll get in the air. The Shake Shack Cheeseburger features a 100% Angus beef patty, topped with cheese and served on a toasted potato bun. You can customise your burger to create the signature ShackBurger, with toppings like tomato, lettuce and Shake Shack’s famous ShackSauce, all served on the side. The inflight meal also features chips, a Caesar salad, and a dark chocolate brownie reminiscent of Shack Attack flavours from some of the brand’s dessert offerings.

Guests flying First Class with Delta will be able to pre-select the Shake Shack Cheeseburger via the Fly Delta app or via a link their email from seven days before departure and no later than 24 hours before taking off.

The airline has plans for expansion to other US markets throughout 2025.
