Drift into this dreamy landscape for a retreat like no other.
When it comes to accommodation that offers ‘uninterrupted waterfront views’, this 360-degree river vista in picturesque Swedish wilderness has got to be hot contender for the best on show.
Freshly opened in February 2020, this cake-like floating hotel and spa in Sweden is now taking bookings.

The Arctic Bath Hotel and Spa is the innovative work of architects Bertil Harström and Johan Kauppi. The unique structure is designed to freeze into the ice of the Lule River in the winter and float on top of the water in the summer.

Here, in the frosty Swedish Lapland region, the hotel and spa will centre its experiences on wellness, mindfulness and cleansing treatments. Nutrition, exercise, peace of mind and ‘care of face and body’ are the four pillars the spa treatments will focus on.

Jonathan Cooper, founder of Off the Map Travel says, “Not only is it a spectacular new space to stay, but it will offer a really different wellness experience that can’t be had anywhere else on earth. It is exciting to be one of the first to offer this to guests – allowing them to visit and stay at Arctic Bath as part of a wider luxury Arctic adventure.”
Alongside six on-land cabins, the spa complex and cabins will float (or freeze) 2-4 metres deep beneath the river, and will be connected by floating walkways.

The main circular structure will house one spa treatment room, four saunas, an outdoor cold bath, and a hot bath (so that guests can alternate between cold- and hot-water dips). Massages and ‘crystal treatments’ will be on offer too.
