Foodies, get ready for the ride of your life. Words by Danielle Colley.

When you set foot upon the luxuriously appointed Belmond Andean Explorer, you immediately feel that this will be a train ride like no other. A locomotive exploration through the undulating mountains of Peru allows guests to experience this incredible region in a manner quite unlike any other.

In contrast to the magnitude of the natural surroundings, the train remains intimate with up to only 48 passengers at a time. With a choice of one or two night itineraries, guests can enjoy an inspiring journey of discovery as they travel between Cusco, Puno and Arequipa, gazing out at Lake Titicaca and Colca Canyon as the scenery rolls by.

Two beautiful dining carriages invite you to enjoy local produce given an elegant twist by internationally acclaimed chef, Diego Muñoz. His flawless creativity blends regional classics with a distinctive flair which, combined with the jaw-dropping backdrop, creates an unforgettable dining experience.

Menus adorned with fish freshly drawn from the Moquegua Coast, and trout from Lake Arapa, broad beans and lemons from Cusco and quinoa from the Altiplano are all transformed into a unique offering complimented by a glorious, rambling landscape reaching out into the distance.

Kick back and enjoy a Pisco Sour while catching your breath in the crisp Andean air from the open deck in the Observation car, before stepping inside and enjoying the grand piano tinkling a soundtrack to your journey.

There are many ways to travel in this richly diverse country, but if a discerning traveller desires an unforgettable experience, this stately expedition should not be missed.
