The true definition of a hidden beach, Tsigrado can be accessed by boat or via abseiling down a craggy rock face with a rope until you reach a rickety wooden ladder that leads you down a second rock face to the sandy shore of this idyllic swim spot. There’s not much shore here and come high tide you’ll struggle to find a spot if it’s busy, but even though getting here is not for the faint of heart it’s worth it. Located on the island’s southern coastline, the easiest way to get her is by car.
Cool off at 8 of the best beaches in Milos
Greece is synonymous with beautiful beaches. Whichever island you’re on, you’re not far from a stunning place to swim. Milos’ beaches have recently found social media fame thanks to the islands unique and dramatic coastline. Making up one of the 220 isles of the Cyclades Island group, Milos has jumped straight to the top of travellers’ bucket lists thanks to its beaches. If you’re heading to Milos, here are 8 of the best beaches to cool off at this summer.
Sarakiniko
This swim spot needs no introduction. Milos’ most famous beach is the one you probably see most on social media. The narrow beach has been carved into the towering white volcanic rock, thanks to waves driven by the north wind. The walk down the cliffside to the water is relatively easy, but sturdy shoes are recommended. Sarakiniko’s landscape is often accurately described as moon-like in appearance, thanks to its undulating surface, dotted with crater-like holes. Those looking for a thrill can hike up the volcanic rocks on the far left side of the beach in search of spots to catapult themselves into the waters below. Situated on the north shore of the island, travellers can get to Sarakiniko easily via bus or car.
Kleftiko
Only accessible via boat, Kleftiko is where Milo’s electric blue waters are on full display. To get here you can either book a group tour, which will stop at Kleftiko and other spots along the way, or a private boat tour that will charter you around the island for the day revealing all the best swim spots along the way.
Firiplaka
Situated on the southern side of Milos, Firiplaka is a popular beach for families. There’s plenty of room on the sand for sandcastle building and the shallow water laps gently at the shore making it safe for young tots to dip their toes in or less confident swimmers. There’s also a snack bar and beach chairs.
Firopotamos
Pack your towel, snacks, drinks and sunblock because this tiny beach located in a small fishing village doesn’t have any facilities, but makes up for its lack of convenience with endless charm. It’s more of a bay than a beach located on the north side of the island and best accessed via car.
Pollonia
While Pollonia beach is small and picturesque, it is also just steps away from some of the island’s best restaurants. We recommend spending the day soaking in the sun and refuelling on Greek cuisine at any of the seaside venues. Nama Milos restaurant is a personal favourite of ours.
Papafragas
A small cavernous cove in Milos, Papafragas is located on the most north eastern tip of the island. There’s a tiny bit of sand that leads to the crystal clear waters and further to a rock formation that has been carved out by the sea that resembles an arch. While you’ll need a car to get here, it’s worth it for the ‘gram.
Plathiena Beach
Here you’ll find plenty of sand with some scattered pebbles and shallow waters making it ideal for those with kids in tow. There are also sunbeds and umbrellas to rent. The beach itself is quite wide so it doesn’t feel overcrowded even during peak season. Plathiena is located on the northern side of the island and can be reached via car.
