This really shouldn’t have come as a surprise to me. Productions on Disney Cruises are award winning. But I have seen one too many ‘talent search’ quality shows on boats before so I went into the shows skeptical. Boy, was I wrong. Trust Disney to not do anything in halves. ‘Frozen, A Musical Spectacular’ brings the magic of the Academy-Award-winning film to life on stage. Of course, all the crowd-favourite songs are performed live, but what is truly impressive are the costumes and stage production, both of which transport you to Arendelle. The show is only performed aboard Disney Wonder and Disney Fantasy. Another Broadway-style show that is performed exclusively on Disney Wonder and Disney Magic and should not be missed is ‘Disney Dreams – An Enchanted Classic’. Disney’s take on the Eras Tour, Disney Dreams has something for every cruiser, no matter their age. The award-winning musical includes songs from classics like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast, and modern tales like Tangled. Top tip: shows are performed at the Walt Disney Theatre. If you want a good seat, turn up 30 minutes before the show is scheduled to start as its first in best dressed.

You’ll find Palo on Deck 10 of Disney Wonder. This adults-only Italian restaurant is a tricky one to find – set behind reflective panes of glass at the stern of the ship, Palo offers stunning sea views and is Disney Wonder’s hidden gem. Palo is the pinnacle dining experience aboard the ship where an authentically Italian a la carte menu is served. Where other dining venues like Tiana’s Place, Triton’s and Animator’s Palate (which I’ll touch on below) embrace Disney to the fullest, at Palo’s you’ll almost forget you’re on a Disney ship, which is great for parents that are only onboard for their Disney-obsessed kids. The restaurant is refined, quiet and intimate. For lunch, be sure to order Lasagna Bolognese and Wild Mushroom Ravioli, both of which are standouts. Come sunset, the Fritto di Calamari e Gamberi (fried calamari and prawns) and Paccheri (lamb ragu) are a must. Heads up, meals at Palo are not included in your all-inclusive ticket, but is worth every penny.

Again, I’m naive, I know. But as someone who isn’t on the DisneyTok algorithm, I was surprised at just how fun dinners were on the Disney Wonder. Tiana’s Place, inspired by Princess and the Frog, serves up Southern cuisine while live jazz music plays in the background. Tiana greets guests at their seats before the meal begins and throughout the seating Tiana, Louis and the wait staff take part in Tiana’s Bayou Bash Parade, where they sing and dance around the room to ‘Gonna Take you There’ from the film. It’s loud, it’s colourful and it’s infectious. You’ll struggle to stay seated. Luckily, diners are encouraged to get up and take part in the fun. Each Disney ship has their own unique dining offerings based on different movies and characters so you’re treated to a one-of-a-kind experience on every ship.

There is never a dull moment on the Disney Wonder. From sunrise to the nightly deck party, you can log onto the Disney Cruise Navigator App and find something to do. Whether it’s character meet-and-greets, watching the latest Disney movies at the Buena Vista Theatre, taking part in a pub quiz, joining a silent disco, I challenge you to get bored. It’s impossible. If you have younger kids, keeping them awake for the Deck Party might be tricky, but it’s worth it. If you’re going to see just one make it Marvel Heroes Unite. Watch on as your favourite superheroes fly through the sky and perform live stunts in front. The show ends with a bang as firework light up the night sky above. Name a superhero and they’re likely to feature in this action-packed production. Captain America, Black Widow, Black Panther, Spiderman, Iron Man, The Guardians of the Galaxy and more make appearances in the 40 minute show satisfying most Marvel fans.

Disney’s Oceaneers Club and Oceaneers Lab are kids’ dreams realised. No detail is overlooked to ensure kids have fun and parents feel that their kids are safe. From a colourful Toy Story-themed playground to interactive sections and a program that changes activities (from science experiments to character visits) every 40 minutes, even the most reserved kids will feel right at home. On the first day of sailing children aged 3-10 are given a wristband that they scan to enter and leave the Oceaneers Club. That band also allows Disney staff to locate which playroom they are in so they know where to find them at pick up. If your little one doesn’t feel comfortable being left alone there are hours where families are welcome into whichever section of the Club or Lab is available for Open House times. Art-loving kids will love the crafts section that has a never-ending supply of paper, glue, paints, drawing tools and materials to assist with their creations. Two cool features that you might not clock right away: the ceilings are lower in both areas to make kids feel bigger and there’s a hidden tunnel connecting the Club and Lab so when it’s not Open House times children can safely move from between both as they so wish.
