To market, to market.
There are some pretty epic food markets around the world. Some that come to mind are il Mercato Centrale Firenze in Florence and Borough Markets in London. For some (ahem *me* ahem) one of the best things about travelling the world is tasting the local cuisine and, in my opinion, there’s no better place to do that than at a food market. Here, you get to sample the best produce and delicacies all in one spot.
So which food markets are worth a visit? AllClear Travel Insurance researchers have released a study that can help determine that. Analysing almost 400,000 online reviews across 100 of the most popular food markets around the world, they’ve compiled a list of 20 of the world’s 20 highest-rated food markets, and it will come as no surprise to Aussies that two of our very own food markets made the top 5.

Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia took out the top spot. Borough Market in London came in as runner-up, followed by Adelaide Central Market, making it the highest-ranked food market in Australia. Equal in position four are Valencia’s Mercado Central and Melbourne’s South Melbourne Market.
For locals and visitors alike, Adelaide Central Market is a haven for foodies. Here, hungry visitors can sample the best South Australian seafood, such as Eyre Peninsula wok-fried mussels at SiSea, local and imported cheese at Say Cheese, the viral Portuguese tarts at Saudade, and loads more. It’s definitely worthy of being the best in Australia, and to be ranked third best in the world.
