The hills are alive.
For those who have been to the Adelaide Hills know why this bountiful South Australian region has landed on American Express Travel’s 2024 Trending Destinations list. From leafy lanes and villages dappled in light, the idyllic Adelaide Hills is not only pretty to look at, but is home to some of the country’s believed vineyards and restaurants showcasing all the region has to offer.
Just an hours’ drive from Adelaide and visitors are able to sample the cool-climate wines South Australia is famous for. From The Lane Vineyard, to Shaw + Smith, Longview Vineyard and beyond, there’s no shortage of vineyards boasting handcrafted blends and organic, bio-dynamic and sustainable wines.

Those Adelaide Hills locals know that food and wine go hand-in-hand so there’s a plethora of restaurants doing incredible things with locally sourced produce to nab a table at. At The Lane Vineyard, top chef, Tom Robinson, puts on a seven-course chef’s menu that celebrates seasonal ingredients that have either been grown and produced on the estate or by local farmers, growers and suppliers.
Adelaide Hills was the only destination from Australia to make the top ten. Joining the wine region to round out the top ten was:
- Bodrum, Turkey
- Niseko, Japan
- Porto Cervo, Italy
- St. Kitts and Nevis, Caribbean Sea
- San Miguel del Allende, Mexico
- Santa Fe, United States
- Seychelles, Indian Ocean
- Udaipur, India
- Zermatt, Switzerland
These go straight to the top of the bucket list.
