Attention: digital nomads. Bali has officially finalised a new digital nomad visa, which will allow remote workers to reside there tax-free for up to six months. A five-year iteration is currently being discussed.
Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, initially made the announcement during a press briefing late June, noting that the much-anticipated Indonesian Digital Nomad Visa was entering its final stages of preparation and would soon be open for applications.

“Discussions regarding visas for digital nomads have entered the final stage and we will continue to coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies. We hope that this can be one of the breakthroughs in regulations,” said Minister Uno.
The new digital nomad visa looks likely to eliminate the complex grey area for those remote workers who reside there temporarily. Currently, many digital nomads are in Bali on tourism and social visas, like the D212 multiple entry visa, which is valid for one year.

The new B211A “digital nomad” visa hopes to resuscitate Bali’s economy and create 4.4 million jobs without taking any from local residents.
