Forget the melting choccies and wilting roses. Here's a gift they won't forget.
Unless your Valentine is allergic to bees, this is a saccharine gift that’s bound to surprise the food lover in your life.
Tasmanian luxury lodge Saffire Freycinet has launched a new offering: The Saffire Beekeeping Experience.
Get your sticky fingers on a hive-to-honey tour of the Freycinet apiary, where Saffire’s horticulturalist Rob Barker – producer of Wild Hives honey – will guide guests through an up-close look at bees who are busy making Tasmanian honey.
“With up to 60,000 bees per hive, beating their wings 230 times each second, this is actually quite an adrenaline-filled experience,” says Barker.
And yet there’s no cause to panic – you’ll be fully equipped with beekeeping suits and headwear. As part of the experience, you’ll also have the chance to extract warm, fresh honeycomb to see the natural wonder at hand.
“Such immersion in nature is as fascinating as it is exciting, particularly as bees are the cornerstone of our ecosystem, without which our world would be a very different place,” Barker adds.
Then, you can head back and dine on locally sourced ingredients and enjoy the views over the Tasmanian wilderness from the comfort of the luxury lodge.
