Chill out at the Apple Isle’s eccentric winter festival.
There’s no event quite like Dark Mofo. In the middle of Tassie’s winter, where some temperatures can drop as low as three degrees celsius, locals and tourists do the unlikely and hit the streets (and water) to celebrate the winter solstice festival.
In 2023, the annual festival will run from June 8-22 and will be celebrating its 10th year. All the signature events will be returning, including two weeks of Winter Feast on the waterfront, the Ogoh-Ogoh’s Purging and Burning, two weekends of Night Mass, and the Nude Solstice Swim (not for the faint hearted), which will close out the festival.

For the latter, some brave 1,000 Tasmanians and visitors will drop their clothes and inhibitions to welcome back the light after the longest, coldest night in the nation with a frosty dip in the River Derwent.
Along with public art, live music, performances and nocturnal revelry around Hobart, there’ll also be an exclusive run of performances of A Divine Comedy by Austrian choreographer and performance artist Florentina Holzinger from June 16-18.
The full program is available on the Dark Mofo website here if you’re still umm-ing and ahh-ing but we promise, it’ll be well worth it.
