And it’s setting a new standard.
Hotel group, Standard International, is launching a new hospitality brand right here in Australia. The StandardX, Melbourne will open in February 2024 and bring the iconic hotel group right back to its youthful roots in Fitzroy.
Melbourne interior design firm, Hecker Guthrie, has taken inspiration from Fitzroy’s 70s and 80s heyday, when artists like Nick Cave and Ollie Olsen established the Little Band scene and the area was a hotbed of experimental art, music and culture.

The 125-room hotel welcomes guests with an loft-like lobby that is fitted with a fireplace, columns wrapped in macrame, custom furniture and antique pieces. Mixing the old with the new is a reflection of The StandardX ethos: bringing a classic brand into a modern era. The uncomplicated aesthetic spans eight floors and across king rooms and suites. Night owls will be happy to hear that there will be 24-hour room service available.

When it comes to food and beverage options, atop the hotel is Mercado Medellin which is exclusive to hotel guests to dine at and offers panoramic views of Fitzroy and Melbourne. Executive chef, Justin Dingle-Garciyya will be serving tasty dishes including tacos, ceviche and more. There’ll also be an all-day Thai diner and The Box, a retail concept that includes everyday essentials as well as snacks and beverages that you can take with you or to your room.

Average rates for The StandardX, Melbourne will range between $250-350. For more information, visit standardx.com
