Having recently found social media fame on TikTok, Carette’s hot chocolate has gone viral with a single video of the drink racking up more than 22 million views. What makes it so good, you ask? Carette’s hot chocolate is velvety and made up of melted chocolate mixed with a little bit of water. It is also served with a mountainous serving of whipped cream, which you add to the cup of silky sweetness to your liking. A single serve costs around nine euro and there’s enough in the pot it’s served in to fill two cups worth.

The Parisian cafe has been serving locals and tourists alike since 1927. While it has become a go-to for tourists – thanks to its Art Deco style and very ‘French’ aesthetic – locals also love Carette. It opened its first location in the Place du Trocadero, near the Eiffel Tower, and then opened its doors to the heart of the Le Marais district in 2010 with its Place des Vosges outpost. Carette also has a pastry shop in Montmartre.

Hot chocolate is the only thing on the menu that is worth visiting Carette for. The macarons and pastries are renowned and the cafes are open from morning to night serving delicious scrambled eggs in the morning, hearty homemade club sandwiches, quiche lorraine and more for lunch and long into the night. So if your idea of a night cap is a hot chocolate, head to Carette.
