Take extra care when booking your next visa for Bali.
We all like to think we know how to spot a fake website from a real one, especially when it comes to official government websites and visas, but more and more Aussies are getting scammed when it comes to booking visas to Bali.
Authorities are warning travellers that there are many websites imitating the Indonesian government’s official website. An electronic visa on arrival (e-VOA) is mandatory for Australian tourists to have when entering Bali. It usually costs around $35 and is required for stays of 30 days or less.
Travellers that have searched and landed on the wrong website have been charged higher fees because they unknowingly used an agency that assists in purchasing the visa through the official website or have arrived in Bali with an invalid visa. If the latter occurs, don’t fret. Your holiday won’t be ruined, you’ll just need to buy a visa at the international airport, but you will be out of pocket as you have to repurchase a valid visa.
If you want to save time and book your visa online before arriving, Smartraveller recommends using links to sites through the embassy or consulate of the country you are visiting.
So next time you’re heading to Bali, research your visa application as well as we know you research where you’re going to eat, drink, stay and play on the island.
