Forget cruising, this is the new way to sightsee.
There’s an unrivaled sense of glitz and glamour on a long-haul train ride, enjoying world-class service while breathtaking views fill every window. Now, you can experience the locomotive action for yourself, with Australia’s newest luxury train offering by Great Southern Rail. The company also operates two other long-distance train rides in Australia, The Ghan (Adelaide to Darwin) and the Indian Pacific (Sydney to Perth).
Set to hit the tracks from Adelaide to Brisbane over the course of three days, the return journey will stretch across four, allowing 218 passengers on board. From the December 3, The Great Southern will start taking bookings for what promises to be a spectacular new generation of railway travel. The appeal of train travel is more than just enjoying beautiful scenery, it also promotes the slowing down of ourselves, finding time for deeper relaxation. This new offering is already proving to be more than just a transport tourism business, now transformed into an experiential adventure.

The first leg of the journey will comprise of a three day, two night adventure from Adelaide to Brisbane, stopping over in Canberra and the Grampians. The return journey will take place over four days and three nights, with stops on the NSW north coast, the Hunter Valley vineyards and the famed Twelve Apostles.
Chris Tallent (chief executive of Journey Beyond) and his team will be spending the next six months working on the off-rail itinerary, ensuring a range of activities are available to guests that showcase parts of Australia they possibly haven’t seen before. Dedicated to celebrating the Australian landscape, even the colour palette is meaningful, with the burnt-orange exterior reminiscent of our Australian summer and beaches, says Tallent.
Prices start at $1649 per passenger which includes all food and wine onboard, any dining taking place off the train and all off-train experiences.
The wheels of the Great Southern will be set in motion between the 6th December 2019 and the 27th January 2020. During that time, it will offer 16 departure dates should you be looking to shake-up your travel plans next summer.
